Peace During Trouble

My talk this Sunday will reflect on how to find peace during trouble.

This past week, I blogged 2 posts that were personal:

I want to thank everyone who has been supportive. I also want to encourage those who started following my blog because of those posts.

I can sense your hurt and search for healing. I get it. Thankfully, you can tell I’ve been there. I don’t have all the answers. I only have my story. The fact it resonates with you means a lot to me.

One of the most important techniques I used to heal was to identify when I was a peace.

When you are in trouble, it is not natural to think you already have peace. You cry for it; you long for it; you talk about it: but you do not consider it is already in your possession!

Your grief comes across you in waves. It is like you are standing in the water at the edge of the surf. Wave after wave crashes over you. Grief is not friendly. It knocks you over.

In between those powerful waves, there is calm.

Where are you at? Literally. Are you with a particular friend? Are you with a certain group of people? Are you watching a movie? What is it that you are doing when you feel a bit of calm in your life?

Identify the times you feel more at ease with yourself.

And then stay there.

Easier said than done, I know. The idea is to learn to love yourself and take care of yourself. You also learn who to stay away from — some people are just plain toxic!

Peace CAN be found during trouble.

I would love to hear about your ideas and experiences.

Peaceful blessings on your weekend.

Timothy

P.S. I am speaking this Sunday at Albany Presbyterian Church. If you are in the area, please drop by.

P.P.S. Thank you everyone who purchased my most recent book, Finding Hope: How I rebuilt my life after it fell apart.

Beginnings

New beginnings are so empowering!

That very word, beginning, carries with it the joy of a new birth, the hope of a better future and the peace that the past is irrelevant.

Such a powerful word!

Recently, I outlined Why I Was Quiet in 2017. It wasn’t that I wasn’t active: I just didn’t find the strength to blog. And your response was so encouraging!

2017 was also special year for all of western civilisation – whether they knew it or not. It was the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther nailing his 95 Theses on the local notice board… which just happened to be church doors. The internet of his day was called the Gutenberg Press. Newly invented, it seized the opportunity to spread its technological connection with society.

The rest is history!

Here we are 500 years on, and many still appreciate the wildfire that burned through our western values.

  • Women were elevated.
  • Libraries were created.
  • Public education had its seedlings.

I was privileged to sit on a committee to help with local celebrations. There were plays, public talks, media displays, concerts – it was full on!

And I was privileged to act as Luther in a couple dramas.

Me as Luther

The committee that created the celebrations were with a local Presbyterian church. Presbyterian churches were an indirect creation of Luther. I was asked to deliver one of the public talks. They wanted to know more about the Beginning of their denomination.

The presentation is now available by book – paperback and Kindle! (Click on image below).

Thanks for your encouragement. I’m enjoying the new beginning 2018 has delivered.

Book signings are always fun; however, today’s was very special. Steve already had his own copy of the book, 56 Notions of Success. He brought his book along to be signed. That was very cool.

Carlsbad Village hosted its 14th annual art festival. It is a lot of fun. The streets are closed down for artists and craftspersons to sell their talent under rented tents. A local bookstore positioned right on the feature way invited me to use their sidewalk area. It was a great time to meet lots of people…. and dogs! At times you would sware it was a dog show!
